Neotropical BioGenomes Network
Starting in Brazil, our network aims to strengthen genomic research in the Neotropics and promote biodiversity conservation actions by:

Generating high-quality genomes for Neotropical species with strong participation and leadership of scientists based in the Neotropics
Engaging researchers from the Latin American scientific diaspora and the broader international community with expertise in reference genomes, fostering collaborative support for Neotropical research groups.

Supporting the growth of regional capacity to generate high-quality genomes by facilitating expertise exchange and developing innovative solutions using local infrastructure.
Developing strategies to overcome operational bottlenecks in obtaining high-quality genomes, establishing good practices and standardizing methods

Storing biological samples in local scientific collections to promote continuity of research and maintain strong ties within the region.
Target species

Sucupira Branca Pterodon pubescens Benth

Limpa-folha-coroado Philydor atricapillus

Giant Anteater Myrmecophaga tridactyla

Joaninha beiçuda
Crenicichla sp.
The genomes will be assembled through different logistic models following these steps:
For sample collection, access to genetic heritage, ethics committees and others
Obtain licenses
Appropriate sampling protocols for each species and biological tissue collected, ensuring cold chain during sample transportation and shipment
Sample collection & shipment
Using technologies such as ONT, PacBio HiFi and Hi-C
